maya is a native of southern california, specializing in handmade, indigo dyed works, and fiber arts. her eye for texture and tone, along with a kinship for natural materials, led her to start her own line "juniper & fir," with a desire to incorporate the shibori indigo dyeing process into production of each individual piece. marrying the tradition of a beloved art practice with contemporary works for a functional home, maya designs wall hangings, textiles, and pillows, sharing her love for handwork, color, and beauty.
before juniper & fir, maya refined her knack for production and design as a visual merchandiser in apparel for over a decade. she currently lives and works in her home studio in echo park.
